In 1974 John Betjeman, then Poet Laureate, became an unlikely pop star, recording his verse to music by Jim Parker for the album Banana Blush. It became a classic, regularly played on radio by John Peel, and is treasured by many musicians. In a special Thaxted premiere, two well-known voices from BBC Radio, with their musician friends, will perform a joyous recreation of Betjeman’s much-loved work. Zeb Soanes is known to many from BBC Radio 4 News, the Shipping Forecast, The News Quiz and other programmes, while Carole Boyde plays Lynda Snell in The Archers.
