Opus Anglicanum present a retelling of Hilaire Belloc's The Four Men, in which 'Grizzlebeard', 'the Poet', 'the Sailor' and 'Myself', walk across the Weald of Sussex in the October of 1902 from Robertsbridge to Harting, with lively conversation and songs along the way, including music from Vaughan Williams, Ivor Gurney, Peter Warlock, George Butterworth, Edward Elgar and Camille Saint-Saëns (reminding us that Belloc was half French) and also a number of Belloc’s own idiosyncratic songs as described in the book.
This performance accompanies the exhibition Sussex Modernism: Retreat and Rebellion at Two Temple Place - 28th January until 23rd April 2017.
